We are all feeling the effects of being in lockdown for the last few months with no end in sight. Gyms are closed due to the pandemic and keeping fit through exercising at home is becoming more important to many of us as it is the only way to retain our fitness levels. Self Storage Runcorn

Setting up a home gym with the proper equipment will depend on the size of your budget, and also the size of the space you wish to clear in your home. Once you have decided on the space, clear it out and store your excess furniture and belongings at our self-storage facility, Stop & Store Runcorn. You can rest assured that your belongings will be kept safely and securely for as long as you need them stored.

We do not know how long the gyms will be closed for, so the sooner we start with a fitness programme at home the better. Keeping fit will help us keep a positive attitude during these times, where reaching for a snack is often the way of dealing with our stress.

Sometimes one just needs a few pointers and some encouragement to help succeed with a fitness program, and not give up. In one of our earlier blogs we discussed resolutions, pointing you to fitness as one of the resolutions we felt should be on your list for 2021, not realizing the extend of how Covid-19 pandemic would affect every aspect of our lives for so long, including attending gym.

Variation makes a fitness program interesting, as it doesn’t have to be about only pushing weights. As you will see, there are many cool things you can do to keep fit.

Set up a Home Gym

As we spend more time at home, we need to make a life for ourselves in our immediate surroundings. This means that with many gyms still closed we have to make other plans with regard to exercise.

Setting up a home gym is straightforward and easy. In fact, you need less space than you think unless you intend buying big, bulky equipment.

Make way for your exercise regime by decluttering unused space. If there is furniture in the way that’s not being used, simply store it until you have further use for it. When you clear out that spare room of all its contents, give Stop & Store self storage Runcorn a call, and we will gladly allocate one of our self-storage units for all your excess furniture and clutter and keep it safely in storage for you.

Look on eBay and Facebook Marketplace for second-hand equipment for your home gym. A television set is most useful to watch programs like Wake up with Joe in the mornings, just his energy alone will inspire you!

Here is some of the basic equipment to get you started:

  • A gym or yoga mat is a must for your floor work, so you don’t have to lie on the hard floor.
  • Resistance bands for strength and tone are easy to work with.
  • A skipping rope is a good piece of equipment for cardio work
  • Get a set of dumbbells to assist with muscle building
  • Increase your upper body strength by installing a pull up bar.
  • Exercises using a medicine ball is great for toning your core.
  • A workout bench is always helpful for exercise involving weights in particular

Just by acquiring these basic items will enable you to have a gym at home which will make it convenient to use.

Walking and Biking

Walking is one of the most underrated exercise routines. It’s easy to do, it does wonders for your physical and mental being, and costs you nothing except the investment in a good pair of trainers. If you have a dog, walking is probably already a part of your routine, so you can always up your game by adding extra distance, and speeding up, which will benefit you and your dog!

A regular event that you can participate in is the park run in Phoenix Park. This weekly fun event that is 5 km long, and you can easily run or walk it. It’s a good way to meet like-minded people. Check whether its programme is running as there have been some disruptions over this period.

Cycling or trail biking is a super way to keep fit and see the countryside. This year why not join a cycling club and participate in regular events. Not only is it a great way to keep up your fitness, but it also is a good motivator to keep up with the rest of the team.

Yoga or Pilates Classes

Yoga and Pilates offer an excellent way to keep your body toned and your mind relaxed. Yoga sessions are great for extra mental awareness and is a fun way to assist with the reduction of anxiety and stress, especially during this time of lockdown. If there are no classes near you, you can follow instructors online.

Swimming and Water Aerobics

Swimming and water aerobics are great methods of exercise, and a way to encourage your kids to get off their screens and do something fun. With a number of good facilities in the area, swimming is a great way to get your pulse up and increase your fitness levels.
